The existence and workings of production music libraries are largely overlooked in formal music education programs and in almost all literature about music and film scoring. If they are mentioned at all, it is sure to be more of a footnote than a focus. Music libraries possess vast amounts of music, generate huge sums of money from license fees and royalties, and control a sizable share of the market. However, understanding of them does not extend very far beyond industry insiders. To most educators and to the general public they are unknown and essentially invisible.
